Now's the time to buy VMW

VMW is down 13% today because of Microsoft's launch of a competing software... Remember, this is Microsoft. A company that stole a few lines of code back in 1982 and cornered the young market on PC operating systems. Microsoft haven't had a good product roll out since. Big wig suites on wall street hear Microsoft and panic, but I think we should know better.. I'm NOT selling my VMW holdings, if anything I see this as a buying opportunity... let me guess what will happen next: Bill gates will showcase the new software at CES and it will crash his OS... Microsoft will offer it's "partners" the software for $200 a year.. but it still won't work. I think that what Microsoft is good for, is promoting this new technology and bringing it to the awareness of millions of developers who will check it out and choose VMware because it's better. Sometimes wars are good for the small contender. It will be interesting following this fight and as always I'm happy to bet against Microsoft... it's the best way to make a buck..

I bought some ADBE on April 28th and though the market has slid some more since then, I'm up 11% on this holding. This is proof that there is no alternative to value investing. Adobe is a jewel of a company. 3 strong product lines, great management and continuous great product launches. So when the market turn bad, investors fly to companies they can trust and that's why Adobe is actually on the rise. This companies numbers are sweet: A 30% operating margin, quarterly earning growing 40%, lots of cash, no debt, no competition - just an ever growing demand for graphic software fondly nicknamed "Photoshop". It's all good over at Adobe's and I think it's a wise place to park till the rain stops..

Now there is a good reason for the price slash.. management has performed miserably.. but a loss of 80% to share value is an over shoot. This is still a market of two players (AMD and Intel) and AMD is one successful product away from bouncing back. a 100% bounce back wouldn't surprise me at all..

These guys are on a shopping spree, buying out lots of old age homes... there is a great advantage to size in this industry and AMED are implementing the right strategy. besides good management this field is about to explode as baby boomers in the US are retiring and will be needing old age care very soon. I've been up 15% on this stock in the past 2 months which is saying a lot in current shitty market conditions. Cheers everybody.

While energy stocks are going through the roof and energy producers having a ball, Atwood Oceanic is my recommendation for a great stock to compliment your energy position. During the gold rush days, not all prospectors struck it rich, some found gold and some didn't.. the people who were consistently getting rich were those who went out west and provided services to the minors such as banking, groceries & supples.. Atwood are the ones who build Oil barges and other oceanic drilling equipment and rather than take the risk of a dried up well, they simply lease their rigs to those who hit the jackpot. As oil prices rise, so does the price drillers are willing to pay to rent the drilling equipment, so Atwood enjoys the upside and in fact, have a backlog of orders - their barges are booked for the next 2 years! That means oil can go down to $100 a barrel and Atwood will still be raking in the profits. At 3 billion dollars in value and with a fair enough P/E of 20, Atwood seems like a good bet.

So the cat's out of the bag as far as energy and raw materials being the hot thing to own. BHP enjoy the vast plains of australia to dig away in and have mining operations all over the world. The company grows through M&A and have delivered outstanding performance over time, always better than the sector or the competition. Add to that insistent roomers that China is trying to buy into the company and what you get is a traders heaven.. enjoy.

Another stellar season for Chesapeake energy. 35% up since the beginning of the year.. as if the market never slumped. You gotta love this company.. or rather you should own it. With the largest natural gas reserves in the US and the world for that matter CHK is a milking cow for the next decade, and it doesn't pollute the environment so legislation is turning towards nat gas.
|
Update 05/11:
|
Rayonier is a timberland company that owns 10's of thousands of would land acres. They chop down a few acres, then move to the next in a cycle that allows re-growth. No need to explain how important wood is to many aspects of our life but wood is also good as an investment and a great hedge against a volatile market. If Rayonier doesn't like the current price it's offered for it's wood, it simply doesn't have to chop any - the inventory keeps growing, literally, on the tree - so no warehousing costs and no depreciation. Since the housing slowdown, RYN has been beaten up with the rest of the field, but not for a good reason. So if you are looking for a great way to play it solid and get a 4.6% dividend while you're doing it, Rayonier is the play for you.

Following StealthGear's call, I think Garmin is a nice adition to any portfolio. Selling GPS equipment. Sitting in a growing sector they have great upside. Everything is becoming GPS these days. In 5 years I don't see any care being sold without somekind of GPS navigating system. GRMN is a 11 bill $ cap and the financials look great. ROE is above 30, just the way I like it. I'm in.

This is a great time to buy inde valued stocks, and one that's been flying under the radar for quite a while is L-1 Identity Solutions. These guys manufature finger printing and other instrument helping goverments identify dangerous people coming over their borders. Hey people, I've been researching this company for a while and diving in on this one. Volcom is a Skateboarding fashion and apperal company. It's very popular with the kids and a well run company. To me, that's all you really need to get your tows wet with a little investment. Lets look at the stats: Great financials, small cap with plenty of growing room. Nice ROE, positive cash flow... and... 14% of the stock is held short !!! ... I love suckers who sell short, they will have to cover soon and that means some heafty upside for us... i hope... ;) have a good day and remember to be a revolutionary !!

pshh... hard not to buy... these guys just got a huge contract to build the MGM New City in Vegas (Vegas baby, vegas!!.. haha.. love vince vaugn).. basically this means they will be busy for the next 3 years. These guys have no debt and about a billion dollars in orders coming in.. they build highways too and with georgy'd new highway bill that means plenty more dinero for the muchachos.. The most compeling reason to buy from my perspective is that most of this company's business is repeat business.. means they know their business and their customers are happy. the stock has been up 184% in the past year which bums me out for not buying sooner... there might be some corrections along the path but i feel it's a great bet... we'll see... keep feeding each other..
