I love Boone Pickens.  He has had a remarkable career, his philanthropic efforts are far reaching, and the Pickens Plan offers a great future for our country.

High Volatility for Global Carbon Trading Index over the Last Five Days

The accompanying table illustrates the high stock price volatility experienced by my Global Carbon Trading Index over the past five days. Cocktail party conversation can take some strange turns at times. Over the Independence Day holiday weekend, I found myself in the unusual position of defending a fellow partygoer's purchase of Valero Energy Corp. (NYSE: VLO) shares to others.

USO the US oil fund made new highs on Friday. Many are hoping this it the 5th wave up which completes a move but if it is a 5th they can go a long time and with Elliot wave it is common to just renumber if the count does now work as planned. However the RSI, MCAD and Stochastics all show negative divergence at this time.

While oil is going up

In a conversation with a trader friend of mine yesterday, he casually noticed the seemingly inconsistent manner in which the 10 and 30 year bond climbed as the equity/economy fear trade continued despite oil screaming to $140/barrel. This is counterintuitive considering increased oil-driven inflation expectations should correlate to higher yields, lower bond prices. Of course this ignores the equity market selling hysteria we are seeing.
