TIVO has great potential both as a standalone, and as a takeover target.  If these folks can get their DVR sofware licensed by other DVR companies - they will take off.  The ad industry itself is taking note, and changing their pricing based on TIVO users watching commercials up to 3 days after a shows running.  Lots of upside - not a lot of downside.

TiVO's intellectual property rights will ultimately win the day. Their patent on the ability for a set-top box to simultaneously record two shows at once while watching the other will lead to a settlement w/ Echostar and future high-margin royalty payments. Stock Tips TiVo (TIVO) is up 7% today after announcing a partnership with Amazon.com (AMZN). Amazon is offering a TV and movie download service that sends video from the web directly to TiVo boxes. The companies Bionic Man Yosaid a test version of the new service, Amazon Unbox on TiVo, will be available today to a limited number of customers. The full service, which will work with the 1.5M TiVo digital recorders with broadband Internet capability currently in homes, is expected to launch later this year. After the market close, Tivo announced that movie downloading service to view the downloaded movie via internet on TV set will be available for certain Tivo DVR subscribers on a trial basis. This service is expected to be widely deployed to 1.5 mil standalone Tivo subscribers sometime this year.
