Sugarcane Ethanol producer Stratos Renewables Corp. believes sugar is better positioned to deliver on its promise as a fossil fuel substitute than corn. They cite a number of reasons for this as well as why the region they chose to grow their sugar is superior. Demand for both Sugar and Corn Ethanol has increased exponentially over the last few years, but the company makes a very good argument why sugar is the better alternative. Since the energy crisis of the 1970’s, Sugar and Corn were the main materials used to create Ethanol. However, at this time methods used to produce ethanol < />< />< />< />< />< />< />< />...

By the year 2010, Detroit is expected to roll out 4 million Ethanol enabled vehicles. Four times more than were produced in 2006. The company is expecting this to increase Ethanol demand significantly in the US over the next few years. Currently the US can keep up with demand, but is quickly seeing the need to import from Peru and Brazil to keep pace with demand. This is indisputably good for the company as the amount of Ethanol enabled vehicles continues to grow. Peru and Stratos are perfectly positioned to supply the US because of the Tax Free zone created by the Andean Trad...

Crops used in the ethanol making process are becoming increasingly correlated to the price of crude oil. Crops like Corn, Soybeans, and Rice rise and fall with the price of Crude Oil. In particular is Corn. Demand for it is increasing at the same rate as sugar yet Sugar prices are not seeing the same price increases. A lot of this has to do with sugar stocks and the type of crop. Sugar supply is not nearly as constrained as Corn crops. An analyst for F.O. Licht stated, “Projected stocks-to-use ratio for corn is 13.1% in 2007-08, but 54.8% for sugar. This represents the leftover stock< />< />< />< />< />< />...

Laws that continue to promote Corn Ethanol’s use are said to contribute to world hunger according to experts. This is due to increased food prices driven by the higher demand curve of corn in the Global picture. Bloomberg told reporters in a response to a U.N General Assembly debate on Global Warming, “People literally will starve to death in parts of the world, it always happens when food prices go up.” The new laws in the US alone increase Bio-fuel’s use 500% current levels.
