Just released Sigma Designs (SIGM) Q1 results (see conference call transcript) are probably the worst nightmare for a non-cyclical growth company to shrink both top and bottom lines.  But is this the beginning of the end of SIGM or does this create an opportunity to own a piece of a great company on cheap?

Today was another nightmare for the Sigma (SIGM) bulls (myself included). But amidst the fear, you must realize the fundamentals:<!--more-->

• After the 5M share buyback, 25,031,060 shares are outstanding. (3.8M are confirmed completed at $21/share. The remaining 1.2M shares may have been already bought, or will likely be bought at these much lower prices).
• Assuming all 5M shares are bought at $21, total net assets minus liabilities is at $240.5M. $9.60 per share liquidation value. Only $26M of those assets are inventories. This is not a substantial inventory risk.
• At $15.50-$16.00 per share,

From the "gotta love it" department: In a report reiterating his "buy" and $34 stock target on Sigma Designs (sigm), saying that he "expects" a strong quarter and guidance, analyst Jeff Schreiner of American Technology Research tells investors how the stock should trade based on three different sets of guidance provided in April by management. He then cut his own revenue guidance for the quarter and year. As I wrote a few months back, Sigma remains "As strange as it gets."
