Since the FDIC deposit insurance fund was rolled into the general fund in the Johnson administration, the FDIC will have to ask the Treasury to borrow to pay back bank depositors. So if you are bullish on bank failures, you should expect the borrowing costs of the Federal gov't to rise. Which makes mortgage rates go up. Which makes the housing problem worse. Which creates more bank failures. Which creates more need to borrow...
