On2 Technologies has sparked up recent interest as it moves further into the acquisition of Hantro Products with increased volume as shorts cover and new investors arrive. With a recent spike in share price of about 20% the stock has dipped 6%, a possible buy point before the stock rebounds on more good news. With such a positive outlook this company could be one to watch.

When readers first suggested that I take a look at ON2 Technologies : ONT , I was skeptical. I heavily shorted smallcaps and microcaps from 2000-2002, and leaning on video codec companies was money in the bank. Every six to twelve months another company would come out with a new video compression algorithm that was going to revolutionize content distribution. The companies were always more hype than substance, and after a few disappointing quarters, their investors fled, leaving shorts like me with easy gains. <> Admittedly, we are in a different era today. <> <>I know this is a new type of post from me, but I am so excited about this one, I wanted to share it with you. On2 Technologies, Inc (ONT) is a company that creates, patents, and licences video compression technology. Blah, blah, right? Well, not exactly. On2’s primary piece of intellectual property (that it solely developed and owns) is the underlying video compression technology for Flash 8. If you are unaware, Flash 8 is the format of video that nearly all user-generated video sites (YouTube, etc) are using. You see the Flash format increasingly on the tech-forward sites, wh><><><>>>><><>>><><>>>>>...

On2 Settles Lawsuits Holding Back Its Acquisition By Google
Kit Digital: In Play After Google Rumored to Buy Brightcove
Kit Digital (KITD) is a software company that enables the distribution of streaming video content online. The company helps its customers monetize video content on the Internet through subscription models, advertising revenue, video-on-demand, and by providing access to live video feeds. <>Rumors late yesterday that Google (GOOG) was in talks to buy KITD's number one peer Brightcove should bring a lot of attention to KITD. According to reports, the deal being discussed is for $500-700 million or 6-9x revenues. By comparison, KITD trades at just north of 1x revenues. Thus a similar multiple >...

On2 Holders Sue To Block Company’s Sale To Google
|
|
|
On2 Technologies (ONT) holders have filed a pair of lawsuits seeking to block the company’s deal to be acquired by Google (GOOG) for 60 cents a share, or $106.5 million, the New York Post reports.
The suits allege, among other things, that terms of the deal unfairly favor Google, with strict “no shop” and “standstill” provisions that prevent the company from considering higher offers.
ONT shares today are unchanged at 58 cents.

Google's Acquisition of ON2 Technologies Is No Big Deal, Here's Why
<>Yesterday morning, Google (GOOG) announced it would acquire On2 Technologies (ONT) for $106.5M. While the deal is not expected to close until sometime in the fourth quarter, many writing about this are already declaring that Google will now disrupt the online video industry by speculating that Google will open source On2's VP8 technology. <>While Google could go the open source route, there are a lot of reasons why that would not disrupt the industry and I think way too many people now want to say Google is going to win the online video war, when all it did was acquire a codec.
