The current credit crisis and liquidity crunch has made even the professional investors balk on calling a bottom. One stomach churning event after another has proven the most optimistic analysts to not only be wrong, but little more than contrarian indicators.
Trading on the NYSE (NYX) fell 26% this quarter to the lowest since 2001 as alternative venues captured market share and the total volume of U.S. equities climbed.
The shares changing hands each day on the 216-year-old exchange fell to an average 1.27 billion in the second quarter from 1.57 billion a year ago, according to NYSE data compiled by Bloomberg.
Total trading rose 19% from a year ago to an average of 6.84 billion shares a day, as companies such as Bats Trading Inc. and Direct Edge ECN LLC won more of the business, Bloomberg data show.
NYX beat earnings today, reporting net income of $230 million, or $0.87 (vs. $0.83e) per diluted share for Q1, a $162 million or 238% increase as compared to net income of $68 million, or $0.43 per diluted share, for Q1 2007.
Synergy with Euronext is on target... Joost van der Does de Willebois, Acting CFO, NYSE Euronext, added, "In addition to producing strong revenue growth, we are well on target to achieve our annual $250 million in technology-run rate savings. In the first quarter, we achieved $70 million in annual IT run-rate savings, which exceeds our previously announced $50 million g
NYX seems to be tracking the financials, forming a bullish wedge. Support at $65 has held 4 of the last 5 times. With MACD and RSI pointing up and 50 EMA at $64.77, I think $65 is a good entry point if you're not in this stock. NYX has disappointed many investors, but it should play out nicely over the next several years. NYX's PEG is .92, it has a 21.88% 5-year growth rate, and GS rated it a "Buy" on April 8 (when it was trading at $68-$70). I've been in and out of NYX for the past two years and am long with about $14k on the table in stock and options.

Question on Stockpickr : "Jim Cramer, I am a big fan and have faith in you and your picks. However, you must admit NYX and LVLT are dogs! They are your stocks of the year and most stocks are up 10 to 20 percent on the year. What is it going to take for NYX to turn around? It seems any news is bad news! Look at my portfolio, I am up nicely on the year except for you guessed it NYX! I feel like a sheep being lead to the slaughterhouse with this stock! What do you think their earnings will be on AUG 2nd? Most are calling for .63/share. I still feel like this stock can take off anytime, howev...
NYX is one of a kind -- it has the perfect combo for value and growth as international bourses continue to grow. I project it will double from its low $80s to at least $150 over the next year based on earnings growth and its ability to acquire more international exchanges with its excess cash balance.
The stock has been mired in a downtrend since peaking at 112 right before Thanksgiving. The stock had just enjoyed a nice run from 75, and was due for a rest. But since then, it has made a series of lower highs and lower lows, recently testing the 80 support level.
The stock vaulted +5% higher today, on little news. There was some recommendations made on TheStreet.com , but no big analyst upgrades or anything.
At 25x next year's earnings, I don't think the stock is expensive given its unprecented global brand and reach
High margins and return business with secular drivers. NYX's valuation does not fully reflect strength or persistence of growth. NYSE's recent merger with Euronext will enable it to benefit from Cost synergies arising from consolidating platforms and pools of liquidity, giving members of the exchange access to worldwide markets and equities.
A combined NYX will add new products and distribution capabilities, alongside reducing dependence on human capital. NYX recently will be firing about 1/3rd of it's workforce and here's where t
I first purchased NYX a few points higher than it sits today after hearing Cramer talk about it on his show. I held on through the recent drop because I have a longer term view than most and believed that Cramer's suggestions on this stock were solid.
It sounds like this is a good point to buy in if you haven't already - This is based on the upcoming deal between NYX and Euronext. I've been averaging down for a while, and am currently up a small amount here, but I think the price is right.
The value of the company can only go up as it's reach increases and today's prices will se...
MA(50) 96.87 MA(200)77.18 If you're looking for a great high-risk high-return addition to your portfoilo, the NYSE (NYX, 84.80 +2.55) is a great hold (not trade). The risk is high because its has a pretty wide trading range, so you're better off holding it as to not miss the run up.
NYX finally pulled away from its 200 MA today on news that the European exchanges posted record trading volumes as a result of the market slump.
Euronext said today that Februrary trading volume is up 25% year-over-year. Euronext agreed to be bought by the NYSE in a $14 billion cash a...
Google (GOOG, 442.81 -2.41) is approaching its 200 day MA at 431.01, making it a buy very soon. There should be a bottom in the coming days or weeks, so keep a close watch on news, upgrades, and price movement.
The next rally for GOOG could be a long lasting one. GOOG endured its cycle down after investors 'sold on the news' after GOOG reported another quarter of strong earnings, and have been selling ever since.
The most recent sell off is partly due to news that Google finally revealed data on click fraud in their AdWords blog. This really shouldn't be a concern to investors as the actual i...
This stock is usually a strong stock as indicated by a few others prior to my post here, but your first sell for loss would've been coming under 100, and the next would've been below 90. today the selling was there which indicates people are losing faith in NYX for the moment. My target for this short is 80. this is of course a short term speculation of a very strong long term stock.
