Itunes is the model of information consumerism all most follow or vanquish.
The Wii internet based services are exactly the kind of access the consumer expects.
Nintendo will continue to meet and exceed the consumers expectations without making over extended investments in to new hardware that doesnt make a difference to the consumer.
Take-Two's (TTWO) success with Grand Theft Auto 4 was and is simplybreathtaking. The game made over $500 million in its first week. To putthat in perspective, the Spider-Man movie, over its lifetime in US boxoffice sales, adjusted for inflation, made $479 million. So in oneweek, GTA4 surpassed the entire take of Spider-Man, one of the mostsuccessful movies of all time. Think about it. In case you'rewondering, yes, I've played GTA4 (thanks again for the gift, lovely andvideo-game enabling wife!). Yes, it's fun. Yes, it's for adults, butyou've seen much worse on TV or at the movies. S&P has tried and failed to overcome the 1400 level consistently over the last couple of months. Today, it overcame 1400 for a bit only to fall back. in fact, as I write this, the rally that has lasted most of the day has completely evaporated and S&P is now lower on the day. For the last week, I have looked at my holdings again and again wondering if I should sell my long positions or trim down. Many of my stocks have been steady and forming nice bottoms or bases (Omniture, Marchex) and some have just been going up at any sign of a broader market rally. Visa, Potash, RIMM, Apple and Ninten
Nintendo will stay (Wii) Fit even if the Yen rises vs. the USD.
Bull Pen:
At the end of January Nintendo reported suberb results for the nine month period ending December 31, 2007. Hardware sales cannot meet demand yet consumers prefer to wait for the Wii rather then buy a PS3 or Xbox. The reason for consumer patience is exciting – both the Wii and the DS handheld appeal to non-traditional gamers – their customer base is expanding rapidly. Since Nintendo produces or owns many of the games sold for it's hardware, it's future profits based on today's hardware sales loo
The Bull pen: Nintendo's long term earnings picture is positive. Hardware sales continue to be exceptional as the company cannot produce enough to meet demand. Anecdotally, many consumers prefer to wait for the Wii rather then purchase the PS3 or XBox. The DS handheld continues to sell well internationally as well as in Japan. More importantly, Nintendo produces many of the games on its consoles, so it's profit potential per a console is higher then Sony's. Since both the Wii and the DS have appeal to "non gamers" further growth seems likely.
As a long time die hard fan who's tracked this company from the mid-late eighties, this gem's fundamentals are as clear as day.
- The most streamlined, and profit-oriented company in their industry. - Recent dominance in both home console and handheld gaming markets. - Incredible brand loyalty and recognition. - Tremendous forward guidance based on projected hardware and software sales. - Broadest target market in the industry. - Billions in net revenue, and billions in equity. - Typically beat their fiscal estimates in 9 months - Great CEO and visionary market d...
Let's forget about the DS for now. The only people who have a Wii so far are the early adopters. The Wii will be in homes of people who have never played video games before. Whether you want to play guitar, tennis, golf, or fight Darth Vader with a saber, the Wii has or will have something for you. The amazing thing is that we're just one year into this Wii thing...
Nintendo is expanding its customer base with the widely appealing Wii. The DS hand-held has sold exceptionally well in Japan, although other markets remain uncertain. So based on Wii sales and, more importantly, game sales, the NTDOY.PK should sell for around $63.
The BOJ is widely expected to raise rates when it meets on August 22-23rd, so downward pressure on the stock may persist for a couple of weeks. Nevertheless, I think that it's a buy at $55 and lower.
Nintendo is seeing incredible strength in the videogame market and has a tremendous upside. The Wii has been the #1 selling console for almost every month since its release, and the Nintendo DS continues to top charts consistently on a monthly basis even though it has been released for over a year now. For both system, it does not appear this trend will end anytime soon with the large number of quality of video games that will be released in the future.

Nintendo leads the game industry in both platform and portable. (Wii, DS) Its increasing sales quarter after quarter and its ROE has been rising. This summer it has a lot of games coming out with many made by Nintendo so the sales are all accumulated instead of having to receive a portion of the income from a 3rd party. Go Nintendo.
If Nintendo can keep its momentum with Wii and DS going, there's still some upside potential to be realized. So far Wii has been hot, it's still hard to find a Wii, even with 3x production capacity than
Nintendo and Apple have very similar successful business models. Proprietary hardware and software, innovative design, user friendly and high margins. They both march to their own drummer and have rabid loyal customer bases. Ipod and Nintendo Gameboy/DS. Mario Brothers, Brainage, Nintendogs. Apple is nowhere in the video game business. NTDOY would round out their offering. Actually it looks like I am late to this party but I have owned NTDOY in my personal portfolio since it was priced at 18. I just forgot to add it to this SP portfolio. Steve is Disney's biggest shareholder. Wouldnt it be...
I'm sorry but I am a die hard Nintendo fan being their right from the beginning. I instantly knew the Wii would reign over all the competing next-gen systems, the second I laid eyes on the beautiful controller. I watched the very first video of the controller (in use) on IGN a while back and have since then waited patiently for the Wii's launch. I was hoping Nintendo would finally regain it's thrown in the console wars with the launch of the Wii, and it has! Looking good, Nintendo.
