LAMR: Bull or Bear?
Too Many Reillys, Too Many Issues: Time to Short Lamar Advertising

Those of you who follow the company Lamar Advertising (LAMR) know that, with only two exceptions (one rather brief and one lasting roughly two years), the company's stock price has been extremely range bound. That range has been, more or less, between $30 and $40. After a recent bull run, which saw Lamar's share price touch $70, the stock has recently entered this range again. <> With the shares trading at $37.53 as of Aug. 4, 2008, it is actually at the high end of this range and I think that Lamar's upcoming earnings report on August 6 may disappoint and send the share price back down to the >...

LAMR trades with a PE of 100. They do billboards/signs. Yawn. GOOG recently reported fewer people clicking on ads and was given a 15% haircut. GOOG now trades at a 33 PE and pretty much owns the US internet search market. If a 33 PE were a fair value for LAMR, it would be trading at $13/share. LAMR is way overvalued. Some funds like SPO Advisory have been buying LAMR, and a lot of it. They have ridden LAMR down from $50+ to a 3-handle. I believe LAMR has more downside until it is fairly valued.

Lamar Advertising has been on my watch for awhile and has been mentioned in other posts. I was slow to react to this stock and I've paid the price. The price appreciation has been moving rapidly and I definitely have missed the intial momentum opportunity. LAMR which provides outdoor advertising space, is moving up as an analyst said is raising his forecast due to the deployment of 350 digital billboards next year. That's all we need is more distractions on the road. But guess what...Federal Highway Administration is approving the installation of digital billboards along roadways.
