Commercial Real Estate - 60 - 90 day delinquiencies are hitting very high levels.  This group has not seen the same pullback as other sub-prime affected areas and we think this is not fundamentally sound, we think it is a matter of time before this area sees the same level (or greater) of bearishness seen in most other sectors, so we are looking to short IYR.

April 30, 2008- The Wall Street Journal reports FDIC Chairman Sheila Blair will be officially proposing to allow the Treasury to make direct loans to almost one million homeowners. This latest government initiative will require the FDIC to raise approximately $50 bln and allow borrowers to pay down up to 20% of the principal they owed on their mortgage. My Stock of the Day is actually an ETF, the iShares Real Estate fund (IYR).
 
With all the talk about whether the housing market has bottomed or not, I thought it was telling that the IYR is breaking below its 200-day average currently.
 
 
 
Actually, the IYR is a basket of many of the largest publicly traded REITs, and has exposure to the commercial real estate market, apartments, hotels, etc.
