Uncertainty hangs over Finisar due to an ongoing review of potential errors in options grant dates.  Because of the internal review, Finisar could not provide EPS results for the 10/31 quarter, nor guidance for the 1/31 quarter.  Once this matter is resolved, it is possible that projected 2007 EPS could be determined to be as high as 0.20 to 0.25 per share.  If that happens, the stock will be very cheap on an P/E basis.  They have a strong patent portfolio, and are going to trial to try to get the award against Direct TV that has been referred to the apellate court.

On November 30, 2006, Finisar was unable to give EPS figures for the quarter ended 10/31/06.  This was due to an internally driven options review, the results of which are still unknown.  The uncertainty regarding EPS for the 10/31 quarter, guidance for the 1/31 quarter, and potential options related problems has depressed the share price.  I think it is possible that the options review may result in restatements or other charges, but that they would likely be non-cash and not affect company viability.  If they achieve EPS of approximately $0.20 in 2007, they look cheap on a P/E basis.

    JDS Uniphase Corp. (JDSU) reported a loss of 15 cents per share for the first quarter, wider than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of loss of 4 cents per share.
     
    Net revenues were $297.8 million, compared to net revenues of $273.1 million for the prior quarter and net revenues of $273.1 million for the year-ago quarter.
     
    Non-GAAP net revenues were $298.6 million, which includes $7.5 million from the acquisition of the Storage Network Tools business, increased 9% when compared to the previous quarter and decreased 21% when compared to the first quarter of fiscal 2009.

    Calm On The Surface; Chaos Beneath

    To look at the big picture, you’d think the market was downright tranquil today. The Nasdaq Composite rose 1.22 points, or 0.08%, to 1483.27. Ah, a day when nothing happened. Right? Wrong.
