Bond manager Bill Gross wants to spread the bailout wealth. Well better late than never I guess.  Citibank has been on my stocks to short list for a while but I kept hoping for a better point to add it to my track record.  What can I say but I think I missed selling it at a fancy price but I think it will soon be in single digits.  Yes that is right I am saying I think C will trade below $10.  Although they have taken most of the pain they are likely to take in sub prime I don't think they have done much if anything to limit their exposure to credit default swaps or CDS.  I think CDS is the looming disaster next to hit the media spot light.  The exp...

Citigroup Inc agreed to buy back more than $7 billion of illiquid auction-rate securities and pay a $100 million civil fine to settle charges it fraudulently misled investors about the debt's risk.

The agreement with New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission could pave the way for other settlements stemming from February's meltdown of the $330 billion auction-rate market.

Discover Financial (DFS) has long lagged behind American Express (AXP), MasterCard (MA) and Visa (V) in the credit card market. Its focus on slow and selective growth has netted it just 7% in Q1 of the $666B in combined outstandings of Bank of America (BAC), JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Citigroup (C) with market shares of over 20% each, and Capital One (COF) and American Express (AXP) with shares of 10% each. In an easily believable story the New York Times is reporting Loan Giant Overstated the Size of Its Capital Base.

An analyst who follows Citigroup (NYSE: C) believes that the financial services company will sell it Primerica division. The operation provides customer life insurance and investment products including mutual funds.

According to Reuters, Ladenburg Thalmann analyst Richard Bove said, "Primerica does not fit into Citigroup Chief Executive Vikram Pandit's goals of making the bank an international company across business lines." Bove thinks that Primerica could bring in over $7 billion.
