Take-Two Interactive (TTWO) shares are suffering a major beat-down after the company slashed its guidance for both the October quarter already ended and for all of fiscal 2010. While there are clearly some company-specific factors at work here, including weak sales for the company’s line of baseball games, there are concerns on the Street that the results might also reflect some more general weakness in the video game sector. Activision: Call of Duty Franchise Sales Top $3 Billion

Activision Blizzard (ATVI) this morning said that its Call of Duty franchise has topped $3 billion in retail sales worldwide. Since its first release, the franchise has sold more than 55 million units. The company recently noted that the latest title in the series, Modern Warfare 2, sold $550 million at retail in the first five days of sale.

CEO Bobby Kotick asserts in a statement that if you consider the numbers of hours people play the games in the Call of Duty series “it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history.”
