Bookkeeping: Stopped Out of A-Power Energy (APWR) Short
Quite a day in terms of being stopped out of shorts left and right. I don't see any particular news but A-Power Energy (APWR) blew through both the 50 and 200 day moving averages today; very peculiar. As always the close is more important than intraday but we're just letting mechanical stops take us out to make sure small losses don't turn into big ones. Volume is actrually quite good at about 75% of a typical day around 12:45 PM so someone wants in.
As we wrote yesterday

Bookkeeping: Shorting A-Power Energy (APWR) and Research in Motion
This are 2 very simple technical set ups - ironically both were flagged in one of my "gap" pieces. [Jun 22: Gaps Filling and To Be Filled?] Both are preset limit orders placed last week than now are hitting.
If A-Power Energy (APWR) breaks through all 3 lines of resistance ahead, it deserves to give me a loss. I am shorting at $8.65 with a 3.5% stake; it topped out today at $8.72 and I will stop out just over $9.00 if the market screams higher on Google and JPMorgans "surprise beats" Thursday.
There are more gaps in the long term chart for APWR than at the typical middle class mall. While ...

More Gaps to Fill

Back a few weeks ago we posted some names that had "gaps" to fill in their charts [Jun 22: Gaps Filling and To Be Filled?] - James River Coal (JRCC) has filled its gaps, and we also listed Research in Motion (RIMM) and A-Power Energy (APWR) - here are updates on their progress; both of these of course would require a swan dive.
I found a few more as I scan charts - some in much more reasonable ranges; frankly there are quite a few out there since we had so many pre market "futures happy" purchase programs in April especially ... if you have any please let me know in comments and I'll add it ...

Gaps Filling and To Be Filled?
I am a big believer in gaps on charts being filled. It does not have to happen, but just from observing over the years I think this has a 98% success rate. The question is timing; literally gaps can fill in days or years.... or anything in between.
I am going to post 3 "gaps" here, one is filling today. 2 are interesting potentials...
We sold most of our James River Coal (JRCC) Friday as it had turned back to $18 but below key resistance levels... I said I wanted to buy it on strength over $19. And to that I exclaim "whew" - it is down 14% today alone. I am going to get back a bit of wha...

It has been an amazing run, as I've stated in previous missives the only move like this that I can recall of similar ilk was in late fall, early winter 1999 at the height of the internet boom. I believe we are now in week 11, with only 1 week down materially (1 week was flat, and the rest up).
As the 200 day and 20 day moving averages converge on our major indexes it appears we could be setting up for a material move in the indexes soon - either another leg up, or a potential reversal. Or maybe we'll surprise everyone and just go sideways for another 2 months. Either way, as we sit today I...
