The world no longer needs wind because crude is falling to the $120s. The hedge funds told me. I am going to stick my hand out, and ignore them, to catch the falling knife that is A-Power Energy Generation (APWR) - which is filling a gap in it's chart at $23. The stock is currently at the $23.30s range so that is close enough for me. This was the name that I did not cut back on in the low $30s last week, trying to curtail trading velocity in the fund, but this market smirked at that decision as all gains must be harvested, lest said gains are quickly demolished within a few days.

A lot of news out of this name - press releases both Friday and this AM. As outlined in the original thesis [Jun 27: New Position in A-Power Energy Generation Systems to Create Alternative Energy Mini Basket] this company has a very solid core business, but the investor excitement will really be coming in 2009 and forward as the wind business begins to (ahem) fly. At this point, after quite a run last week, the stock is probably a bit ahead of itself as most of the new data points are positives, but positives for the long run and not changing any of the financials in 2008.

As wind energy has lagged other forms or renewable energy in recent years, it is now on the the front burner. With such names T. Boone Pickens now starting to invest large sums of money in the space, and the press that  will follow, I feel quite sure that wind energy will be the next  sector to move sharply to the upside over the next 1 to 2 years.

APWR is already profitable, and will be bringing it's new manufaturing facility on line in the 3rd qtr of  2008. The company has a low share float, and already has a large back log of orders. This stock can move very quickly so research APW
