Now that AMD has just annouced their CEO swallowed more than he can chew. What next? bigtech.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/07/17/new-amd-chief-likes-getting-his-hands-dirty/ Will AMD become the nex PC Dinosaur? I hope not. We need another PC company to keep Intel honest. Where would Coke be without Pepsi? Boeing without Airbus? Visa without MasterCard? Heck even DC versus Marvel Comics! How low can AMD go? Sure they could go to Zero in the next two years. Their Finacials are a mess, they are losing more money than they are making, but at least they still have inn ...

4/8 - "AMD negatively pre-announced Q1 revenues on weak end market demand. This conforms to our view that PCs along with wireless handsets are likely to drive negative earnings revisions in the first half of 2008....maintaining a Hold rating."
"We are lowering our estimates...Revenue: Q1 C2008E from $1.66 billion to $1.5 billion; C2008E from $7.145 billion to $6.402 billion...EPS: Q1 C2008E from ($0.31) to ($0.44); C2008E from ($0.57) to ($1.26)...Price target remains $6.50, and equates to a market cap of 0.6x our C2008 revenue estimate."

AmTech Welcomes AMD's Cost-Cutting, Lehman Concerned with Declining Market Share

4/8 - "Analyst Doug Freedman of American Technology Research welcomed AMD's cost-cutting news. "AMD hasn't been efficient with the workforce it has," he says. "I don't think this cut will be material to its ability to be effective. It will emerge leaner and meaner. We saw what this did at Intel after it started cutting jobs that amounted to 20% of head count." Freedman rates AMD stock a buy with a price target of $10.
Earlier in the day, before AMD's announcement, Lehman Brothers (LEH) analyst Tim Luke said in a research note he expects AMD's share in the PC and server microprocessor marke...

AMD (AMD) has been bragging that it will introduce a new high-end chip for desk-top computers. It will make PCs run faster, especially for hungry video and gaming applications. The chip, Phenom, is about to hit the market.
Unfortunately, the competing product from Intel (INTC) has more power and a head start in the market. According to The Wall Street Journal "Intel, which packages dual-processor chips together for its quad-core products, still has bragging rights at the top end of the enthusiast market."

Long term value play. I am not a big fan of this company and would not be a buyer. But if I owned it I would hold. The company has a nice portfolio of products supporting the solar panel industry that should see some decent growth over the next decade.
