North American Energy Partners Inc. provides heavy construction and mining, piling, and pipeline installation services in Canada. It also offers general support services including road building, and repair and maintenance for mine and treatment plant operations; hauling of sand and gravel; and relocation of treatment plants. In addition, this segment provides industrial site construction for projects and underground utility installation for plant, refinery, and commercial building construction. The Piling segment provides deep foundation construction and design build services to various industrial and commercial customers. Its services include installing various types of driven, drilled, and screw piles, caissons, and earth retention and stabilization systems for industrial projects primarily focused in the oil sands and related petrochemical or refinery complexes, as well as commercial buildings and infrastructure projects. The Pipeline segment provides small and large diameter pipeline construction and installation services to energy and industrial clients. Its services comprise installing transmission, distribution, and gathering pipes made of steel, fiberglass, and plastic. As of March 31, 2009, it operated and maintained 728 pieces of diversified heavy equipment and approximately 900 ancillary vehicles.
