The accompanying tables present an overview of my 48-company Global Cosmetic and Reconstructive Medicine (CRM) Index which includes companies engaged in skin care, cosmetic medicine, regenerative medicine, orthopedic repair, and joint replacements. The performance over the past year of my CRM Index compares favorably to benchmark ETFs such as HealthShares Composite (HHQ), Ortho Repair (HHP), and Skin/Wound Care (HRW). The mix of companies in this index provides exposure to medical innovators such as Cytori Therapeutics (CYTX) and its Celution System for cosmetic/regenerative medicine applications; as well as traditional ortho repair companies such as Stryker (SYK) and cosmetic medicine companies such as Allergan (AGN) (e.g. Botox). The CRM industry is poised to benefit from an aging US population which boosts demand for joint replacements and other cosmetic enhancements; although the latter is not limited to the aging population in a culture that is obsessed with appearance.
